Direct Counsel is seeking a Creditors' Rights & Bankruptcy Litigation Associate Attorney to join a highly respected Am Law firm in its Chicago office. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with experience in creditors' rights litigation and bankruptcy matters to join a sophisticated practice handling complex commercial finance disputes, loan enforcement actions, and insolvency-related litigation.
The firm's litigation team offers a collaborative environment where associates work closely with experienced partners, gain significant client exposure, and take on meaningful responsibility from the outset. Attorneys are encouraged to develop their litigation skills while building expertise in commercial finance, secured transactions, and bankruptcy law.
Responsibilities

Represent financial institutions, lenders, and commercial creditors in litigation and bankruptcy matters

Draft complaints, motions, briefs, and other pleadings in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts

Manage all phases of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, and settlement negotiations

Handle matters involving commercial loan enforcement, collateral recovery, and creditors' remedies

Advise clients regarding rights and remedies under the Uniform Commercial Code, including Articles 2, 2A, and 9

Participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and court appearances

Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders

Collaborate with partners on case strategy and business development initiatives
Qualifications

J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials

3–5 years of law firm experience focused on creditors' rights litigation and bankruptcy law
-
Experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and related litigation documents
-
Experience appearing in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts
-
Knowledge of commercial finance law, equipment leasing, secured transactions, and UCC enforcement matters

Strong case management, research, writing, and analytical skills

Deposition experience preferred

Licensed and in good standing in Illinois, or eligible and actively pursuing admission

Compensation
Base Salary: $240,000 – $320,000
Compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and class year.
