Direct Counsel is seeking an experienced Litigation / IP Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join a prestigious Am Law firm in Silicon Valley. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned legal support professional with 5–7 years of big law experience supporting complex litigation and intellectual property matters.
The ideal candidate will bring deep experience managing high-stakes litigation matters from inception through trial, exceptional organizational skills, and a strong command of litigation technology, court systems, and e-discovery workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Support attorneys in complex litigation and IP matters from case inception through trial and post-trial proceedings
- Maintain and organize physical and electronic case files, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and compliance with firm procedures
- Track critical deadlines, court dates, and filing requirements through docketing and calendaring systems
- Conduct legal and factual research using platforms such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, and other legal research databases
- Review and summarize transcripts, case law, statutes, pleadings, and legal authorities to support case strategy development
- Draft, revise, and proofread legal documents, including:
- pleadings
- discovery requests and responses
- subpoenas
- deposition summaries
- pre-trial filings
- Assist with deposition and trial preparation, including trial binders, exhibits, witness lists, and hearing materials
- Manage the discovery process, including collection, review, and production of electronically stored information (ESI)
- Coordinate with outside vendors, litigation support teams, and legal technology professionals on e-discovery platforms and workflows
- Support attorneys with document production, privilege logs, and case management systems
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of litigation legal assistant experience, ideally within a large law firm or Am Law environment
- Strong background supporting complex commercial litigation, IP litigation, or technology-related disputes
- Experience with state and federal court filings, including e-filing systems
- Proficiency with legal research databases, PACER, docketing systems, and e-discovery tools
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, document management systems, and PDF software
- Excellent written communication, organization, and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority matters in a fast-paced big law setting
- Trial preparation experience strongly preferred
