Bernards Elementary School teacher is responsible for delivery of instruction that is based on the approved curricula and mission of the school and to create a safe, orderly and Catholic learning environment for his/her students. The Second Grade is a self-contained classroom. Students go out for Specials Art, Music, Gym, Computers and Library. The Second Grade teacher is supported by a Title 1 Reading teacher and Reading Consultant as needed.
Students in need of additional instruction can receive it in one on one or in small groups settings. Reports to The Principal Educational Requirements Bachelors Degree in Education or a related field of study from an accredited college or university. Master's Degree in education or a related field of study preferred. Experience is preferred.
CertificationCurrent Massachusetts Educator License (or other current state license) or actively in the process of obtaining a Massachusetts Educator Licensure certification. Documentation required. For teachers of Religion - Master Catechist certification, proof of comparable certification through a comparable program in another Diocese or Archdiocese or willingness to enrollment in the program leading to the Master Catechist certification through the Diocese of Worcesters Office of Religious Education. Leads and encourages prayer in the classroom.Plans and teach Religion classes (if applicable) that align with the guidelines of the Diocese of Worcester Catholic Schools Office and the Office for Religious Education.Attends Catholic liturgical ceremonies (as required).Schedule Follows the school calendar. A classroom teacher does not work on school vacation weeks. The classroom teacher will work a limited schedule (hours and days to be set in consultation with the Principal) as needed at the end of the school year for professional development and prior to the first day of school. Hours 8:15 AM to 3:30 PM Start and end times may vary from year to year depending upon the school schedule.

Plans lessons that address the various needs of individual students, small groups and the entire classroom. InstructionDelivers a balanced program of instruction that incorporates direct instruction, guided instruction, individual/ group practice, questioning, demonstration and discovery. Plans individual and group instruction that includes lecture, discussion and hands-on activities.
Administers assessments (both formal and informal) to determine if instructional objectives are being met.Uses assessment data to differentiate instruction to assure that the diverse needs of all students are met.Assigns and grades class work and homework that supports the objective of the lesson and re-enforces the learning process.Classroom Management Assures that Catholic values are the basis of all interactions between students and the teacher.Establishes and clearly communicates classroom procedures that optimize instructional time.Creates and enforces rules that are clear and foster an atmosphere in which all can thrive.
