Summary
The Parish Catechetical Leader also known as Director of Faith Formation or Director of Religious Education, under direction of the Pastor, is responsible for the overall direction of the parish’s total catechetical ministry. Envisions, plans, develops, and then organizes and evaluates all facets of the parish’s formation programming (adult, young adult, adolescent/youth and children. Coordinates, recruits, facilitates training for, and evaluates catechists and volunteers involved in catechetical programming. Researches and selects appropriate materials and media for parish use. Communicates with parishioners, parish staff, and diocesan representatives on relevant matters. Stays current regarding developments or trends in the field of catechetics, education, and ministry.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Implement, organize, supervise, and administer the two years formation program for the sacrament of the Eucharist and for the sacrament of Confirmation.
- In collaboration with the Pastor, oversees the ordering of textbooks, teaching materials and resources for the program as well as coordinates with the Pastor the celebration of the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.
- Responsible for the recruitment, training and supervising of catechists and volunteers.
- Responsible for the counseling and visiting with students, parents, and teachers when classroom problems arise.
- Required to participate in Diocesan training and ongoing formation to keep up to date on trends in catechetical ministry.
- The Academic year begins at the end of September and ends the last week of April. It is desirable that PCL is available for office hours at least Tuesday through Thursday.
- Classes are held on Wednesdays and organized in two sessions. The first session begins at 4:00 pm and the second one at 6:30 pm.
- Must be able to attend occasional events that take place on Saturdays (e.g. training sessions, retreats, and celebrations of Sacraments).
- Assists with recruiting Altar servers for the Sunday mass from students that have made their first communion.
- Occasionally assist with the office clerical work and front desk if needed.
- Occasionally assist with the OCIA program particularly with young people that have not completed their sacraments of Christian initiation.
- Bachelor or Master level degree in areas of Theology/Religious studies or Education, preferred.
- Certified Catechist and has more than 3 years of experience in the field of Faith formation and/or primary education, and knowledge of catechetical resources.
- Bilingual (ability to read, write, speak and translate English/Spanish, preferred.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing and participates in the sacramental life of the Church and adheres to the Church teachings.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.
- Ability to multi-task, work independently and make responsible judgment calls.
- Ability to work effectively with Diocesan employees, departments heads, representatives of other agencies and the general public.
- Excellent written, verbal and public speaking skills.
- Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving capacity.
- Ability to stay focused and organized.
