What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Coordinator position at Diocese of Norwich Outreach to Haiti?
The US Education Coordinator (EC) works part-time and manages the US-based work of the Education Program of Outreach to Haiti. The EC reports to the Executive Director (ED) and works in person at the Norwich, Connecticut office. The EC has no direct reports but works alongside our Connecticut-based staff and works in close partnership with our Education Director based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Hours of Work: The number of hours per week will vary based on the time of year. During summer months (June, July, and August) required hours may reach 20 per week. During the remainder of the year, hours will likely range 5-10 hours per week only. There is some flexibility in schedule.
Salary: $20-23 per hour, commensurate with experience and education level
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the flow of "child-to-sponsor" correspondence, ensuring letters and updates are collected, organized, and shared on schedule.
- Monitor and evaluate program activities supported by education grants to ensure compliance and impact; draft grant reports that clearly communicate progress and outcomes to stakeholders.
- Maintain and audit Excel-based tracking systems to ensure student data and sponsorship records remain error-free and up-to-date.
- Lead strategic fundraising initiatives for the Education Program, including grant writing, sponsorship drives, and the cultivation of key external relationships.
- Track grant expenditures and sponsor donations accurately to maintain financial accountability and budget alignment.
- Serve as the primary liaison for sponsors, ensuring timely, professional, and personalized communication.
- Coordinate with the Education Director in Haiti to gather data, stories, and media for sponsor letters, reports, and marketing materials.
- Bridge communication gaps between the US office and Haiti staff, translating program needs into clear action items.
- Support Education program monitoring, evaluation, and reporting processes to ensure program quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and mission-aligned workplace culture that prioritizes the safety and well-being of children.
- Contribute to strategic planning and organizational development by identifying emerging needs, risks, and growth opportunities within the Education Program, and by contributing to organizational fundraising initiatives. 1 of 2
Experience and Skills Required:
- Demonstrated administrative, educational, or non-profit experience of at least 3 years
- Solid organizational and project management skills with a keen eye for detail
- Proficient in Office software, particularly in use of Excel and other spreadsheets
- Polished interpersonal and communication skills, including a professional phone presence
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to resolving student or donor inquiries
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent number of years of experience
- Excellent English written language skills
- Knowledge of French and/or Haitian Creole not required but a significant asset
- Strong team player with excellent ability to work cross culturally
