The Instructional Aide at Saint Joseph Grade School serves as a vital partner in the classroom. This role requires a "servant’s heart" and the ability to pivot between instructional/academic support, clerical tasks, and student supervision. The ideal candidate is a proactive individual who models the Catholic faith and treats every student with dignity and kindness.
Mission: To support the classroom teacher in forming the minds and hearts of our students through academic assistance, spiritual mentorship, and the promotion of a joyful, orderly learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic Support & Small Group Facilitation

Work under the direction of the lead teacher to provide one-on-one or small-group instruction in core subjects (Reading, Math, and Religion).

Help differentiate instruction by supporting students who need extra reinforcement or those ready for academic enrichment.
2. Classroom Management & Environment
-
Assist in maintaining a classroom culture of "accountability and grace," helping students follow routines and practice social-emotional skills.

Supervise students during transitional periods, including recess, lunch, and hallway movement, ensuring safety and modeling respectful behavior.

Prepare instructional materials, organize classroom resources, and assist with clerical tasks to maximize the teacher's time with students.

Serve as substitute teacher when the lead teacher is not present
3. Spiritual Leadership

Actively participate in the spiritual life of the school, including morning prayer and attending school liturgies with the students.

Model the virtues of patience, temperance, and diligence in all interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma (Associate’s degree or some college credit in Education preferred).

Skills: Excellent communication skills, a high level of organization, and the physical stamina to keep up with active elementary students.

Clearances: Must complete all Diocesan safe environment requirements and background checks.
