The ESL Teacher provides targeted English language instruction to students in grades K–8 whose primary language is not English. This role supports students in developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while helping them succeed in the general education curriculum. The ESL Teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, communicates with families, and fosters an inclusive, culturally responsive learning environment.
- Provide direct ESL instruction aligned with state standards and language proficiency levels
- Assess students’ English language development and monitor progress regularly
- Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans based on students’ needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support language development across content areas
- Support classroom instruction through push-in and/or pull-out services
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and compliance documentation
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and language support
- Create a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment that respects diverse cultures
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school initiatives
- Assist with language proficiency testing and placement of multilingual learners
