Requirements
Essential Job Duties:
- As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St John Neumann Catholic Church in both your professional and personal life.
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
- Foster a culture of evangelization and discipleship for children (K-5) and their families
- Implement well-developed and best practice curriculum for catechesis, including sacrament preparation for 1st Reconciliation, 1st Holy Communion, and OCIA adapted (as needed)
- Collaborate with Disciple Development Team to develop a wholistic approach to family faith formation that connects each member of the family (children, siblings, parents) to help strengthen the domestic church
- Foster an environment of community through organized and well-planned programs, projects, and special events
- Recruit and train lay leaders and parents (volunteers and catechists)
- Seek out ways to attract and serve those not yet in our pews; develop a roadmap for families seeking or returning to faith
- Serve as a staff liaison for volunteer led ministries as assigned by supervisor
- Plan and lead Vacation Bible School annually
- Collaborate with The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Program
- Participate in professional development
- Bachelor’s Degree (M.Th or M.Div preferred but not necessary); education in Pastoral Ministry, Theology or related, or 2 years employment in a parish or school
- A practicing Catholic in good standing
- A self-starter that can organize and plan curriculum and lesson plans for K – 5th grade level catechesis
- Ability to adjust in a fast-paced work environment with a positive, solution-oriented attitude
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally to design and nurture an environment that allows for inclusivity, creativity, and a sense of belonging
- Open to feedback and a desire to improve ministry offerings
- Excellent communication (verbal and written)
- Ability to stay organized and be attentive to details
- Understands Relational Ministry - prioritizing people and investing time to grow authentic relationships with all those involved in the ministry
- Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level 1 Training (preferred by not required)
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
- All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.
- The Parish is an at-will employer.
- All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.
- Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
- Due to the nature of the role, Sundays and some weeknight work is required during the catechetical season.
- Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
- Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
