Job Summary
The Director of Secondary Education provides visionary leadership to ensure high-quality, evidence-based instruction across grades 6–12. This position directs, plans, coordinates, and monitors secondary, career and technical, alternative, and adult education programs, including curriculum, assessment, professional learning, grant administration, compliance, and reporting. The director collaborates with school leaders and instructional staff to promote instructional excellence, continuous improvement, innovation, and equitable outcomes for all students. Work is performed under the general direction of the Chief Academic Officer. Departmental supervision is exercised over Adult Education teachers, Grant Coordinators, and support personnel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of the current practices and analysis of the development of curriculum, instructional objectives, and professional development programs of secondary, career/technical, and adult education.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of secondary teaching and learning.
- Thorough knowledge of instructional operations in a school building.
- Experience in supervising and providing performance feedback to professional staff, managing budgets, interpreting data, and implementing solutions.
- Exhibits current technology skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- Must possess a Master’s degree in a related field and possess the administration & supervision endorsement under Virginia licensure requirements.
- A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience in a secondary setting is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of successful experience as a building administrator.
- Possess leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively as a team member with the superintendent, central office staff, principals, teachers, parents, and community.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Pay: $98,904.00 - $168,126.00 per year
