Job Summary::
BRIC is seeking a temporary Environmental Specialist III to join our team to provide environmental compliance consultation and management services in the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs. Assignments pertain to development of management plans to comply with Federal, state, and local environmental control regulations and goals (e.g., water, air, solid waste. The position requires thorough knowledge of all State, Federal, and Local regulations pertaining to environmental compliance programs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: :
Responsible for planning, coordinating, and conducting environmental conservation, restoration, compliance, and pollution prevention projects of a complex and non-routine nature requiring substantive adaptation and modification of approaches, methods and procedures. Such work requires professional knowledge of environmental principles, techniques and practices and environmental programs and issues that typically present problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods, and/or require application of new developments and theories. Plans, develops, organizes, administers, evaluates, and coordinates projects in support of environmental programs for areas engaged in diverse high-risk operations and functions. Prepares, reviews, and coordinates the preparation of written plans, schedules, and milestones for accomplishing goals in both prevention and abatement functions. Incorporates federal, state, and local regulatory requirements into project design, implementation, and evaluation. Identifies environmental abatement projects needed. Develops project plans, outlines environmental procedures and issues, and identifies long and short-term goals and objectives. Manages resources throughout completion of project. Participates in environmental regulatory personnel visits and inspections. Prepares reports and follows up on findings of noncompliance and notices of violations. Participates with audit teams to conduct inspections of facilities and operations to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations. Ensures monitoring and sampling equipment is accurately calibrated and functions properly. Takes samples and accumulates information and material required for laboratory analysis. Analyzes and interprets laboratory reports to determine the presence of hazardous environmental conditions and the degree of noncompliance with regulatory guidance. Prepares applications for required permits and ensures their currency in accordance with pertinent regulations. Consults and provides guidance in developing new or radically different procedures to correct violations or meet new program requirements. Reviews plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of projects in support of the environmental programs. Responsible for ensuring preparation of documentation (e.g., environmental assessments, air conformity determinations) on facility, construction, and test projects. Coordinates and advises spill response team actions and/or abatement team activities. Organizes, schedules, and administers supporting functions of appropriate meetings for discussion of environmental issues. Establishes agenda topics, tracks resulting action items, coordinates development of presentations, and ensures complete coordination. Works issues pertaining to environmental compliance and remediation actions. Develops and conducts various environmental training. Participates in meetings regarding environmental concerns related to the assigned projects. Analyzes data from various sources, such as inspection/evaluation reports, project information, notices of violations, etc., and identifies trends in the functions and operations. Recommends the need for improvements or areas of further study. Prepares written reports and documentation regarding assigned projects.
Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience)::
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in specialization or related discipline and 7 yr. applicable experience or have a minimum of 10 yr. applicable experience in related discipline; or a Master’s Degree in specialization or related discipline and 5 yr. applicable experience; or a Doctorate Degree in specialization or related discipline and 3 yr. applicable experience.
  • 5 yr. experience leading/supervising.
  • Shall possess certification for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) within 6 months of employment.
  • Minimum of 1 personnel shall possess Asbestos and Lead Abatement certifications.
  • Shall possess hazardous waste generator annual training certificate.
  • Shall be Respiratory Protection qualified, to include medical screening, fit checks, and Respiratory Protection Training.
