Duty Schedule:

Faculty schedule - 40 hours per week.

Summary/Objective of Position:

The successful applicant must have the background and experience to teach courses in life sciences including introductory and majors in biology, evolution, and ecology courses, in BS programs Biology, Biomedical Science, and Agriculture degree programs. A Ph.D. is preferred, and the ability to mentor thesis students in an MS in Biology program is also highly recommended.

  • A full-time College faculty is responsible for instruction, assessment, advising, committee work, and service to the College.
  • Other duties may include grant management, research, academic advising and mentoring, assessment of courses and programs, or specific academic endeavors.
  • A College faculty is critical in creating, maintaining, assessing, and reflection upon a learning environment where academic discipline interweaves with the College mission to support student learning and the Diné Educational Philosophy.
  • The time, days, and site(s) for teaching of courses vary and mode of delivery may include both in person and distance education.
  • As a multi-site institution, faculty may be required to teach at satellite centers, and/or use synchronous, asynchronous, or all Online courses.
  • The successful applicant must have the background and experience to teach courses in life sciences including introductory and major's biology, anatomy and physiology, and microbiology courses in a BS in Biology/Biomedical degree program, with discipline expertise in a biomedical science.
  • A Ph.D. is preferred, and the ability to mentor thesis students at graduate level is highly recommended.
  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Biological Sciences or similar field is required, while a Ph.D. is preferred.
  • The ability to mentor thesis students in the applicant's independent and grant-funded research program, in an MS in Biology program, is also highly recommended.
  • Routine workload may include (not limited to):
    • 95% Instruction and curriculum. Times, days, and site(s) for teaching courses vary and mode of delivery may include both in person and distance education. As a multi-site institution, faculty may be required to teach at satellite centers.
    • Time release of up to 40% may be provided to faculty who establish competitive and sustainable research programs subject to budgeting such as release in external funding proposals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Minimum:

  • For teaching of 100-200 level courses: Minimum of a master degree in the respective discipline with minimum coursework of 24 credit hours of upper division and/or graduate credit in the discipline to be taught.

Preferred:

  • Research program is highly recommended.

Knowledge:

  • Research program is highly recommended.

Skills:

  • Effective communication - effective written, spoken, and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
  • Navajo/American Indian preference is exercised but not mandatory.
  • Bilingual and bi-literate Navajo preferred, but not mandatory.
  • A faculty is expected to have a high degree of proficiency in computer software used to support the administration of higher education.
  • Software use includes, but is not limited to, general office functions such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet services.
  • In addition, a faculty is expected to utilize academic-specific programs for course delivery (face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous), and course maintenance (such as grade submissions, posting of syllabus, etc. using Jenzabar, blackboard, etc.)

Abilities:

  • A faculty is expected to have a high degree of proficiency in computer software used to support the administration of higher education.
  • Software use includes, but is not limited to, general office functions such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet services.
  • In addition, a faculty is expected to utilize academic-specific programs for course delivery (face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous), and course maintenance (such as grade submissions, posting of syllabus, modules, course itinerary, etc)

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

  • Use the College vehicle, which requires updated Navajo Nation Public Safety certificate.
  • Works primarily, although not exclusively, in a climate-controlled environment.
  • This position requires average agility and good physical conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
  • Works requires lifting, stooping, bending, stretching, walking, standing and other physical exertion at times.

Salary : $52,000 - $62,000
