Role Overview
The Marine Waterfront Operations Manager is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of marina lifting equipment to haul, launch, and position vessels. This role is essential to daily yard operations and works closely with both the service department and dock staff to ensure boats are handled with care, safety standards are maintained, and yard workflows remain organized and efficient.
This position requires strong attention to detail, situational awareness, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment for staff, customers, and vessels equally.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain DYS travel lift and waterfront operations, performing routine maintenance and coordinating with outside mechanics as needed
- Operate Marine Travel Lift, assist with hauling, launching and setting vessels on property and on vessel transport trailers
- Work closely with vessel transport drivers to ensure boats are set properly and ready for over the road transport
- Manage team of boat yard assistants
- Ensure strong communication with all inbound and outbound vessel transporters
- Operate trailer caddy for yard moves, including moving vessels in and out of buildings
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facility, including:
- Basic building and grounds maintenance
- Painting and light repairs
- Minor janitorial duties as requested
- Ensure the facility remains hazard-free and that all equipment is properly stored and maintained
- Assist with vessel preparation and deliver to customers
- Communicate professionally with customers and prospective buyers regarding vessel detailing and maintenance
- Accurately complete work order documentation through timely entries in time-tracking and scheduling systems
- Perform billable work and other work as assigned
Requirements
Physical
- Ability to lift and move heavy blocks and boat stands
- Ability to perform seasonal tasks such as snow removal
General
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in yacht or vessel transporting preferred, but not required
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering high-quality results
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods of time
- Knowledge of marine-specific cleaning products, tools, and detailing techniques (or willingness to learn)
- Willingness to follow directions, adapt to changing priorities, and learn new skills
- Valid Driver’s License
Certifications
· Commercial Driver’s License
Experience
· Minimum of 2–3 years of experience operating travel lifts, forklifts, or similar heavy equipment in a marina or boatyard environment preferred
· Demonstrated experience hauling, launching, blocking, and relocating vessels of various sizes and types
· Proven knowledge of vessel weight distribution, sling placement, and safe lift procedures
· Experience working in a fast-paced yard environment with multiple vessels and shifting priorities
· Familiarity with marina operations, dock procedures, and service department coordination
· Prior experience performing routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
· Experience working safely in outdoor environments and around water
