We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, self-driven, part-time gardener to assist with all gardening duties on a variety of small to medium projects in residential gardens in Northern Virginia.
This is a part-time position with a good amount of flexibility. We have 4-9 hour work days depending on the season and rarely work on weekends. Spring and fall are our busiest times. Pay can increase as employee gains knowledge and ability and performance increases.
Duties include:
- Work closely with, assist and learn from the head gardener.
- Weeding flower beds.
- Removing sections of grass and creating new garden beds.
- Lifting and applying bags of mulch and soil amendments to garden beds.
- Planting of annuals, perennials, shrubs and small trees.
- Trimming and pruning shrubs.
- Raking and collecting yard waste.
- Loading work vehicle with yard waste and assisting with dumping at yard waste facilities.
- On the job learning of plants and gardening and horticultural practices.
- Cleaning and maintaining equipment.
- Maintaining a safe work environment.
- *We do NOT do lawn cutting or other lawn services.
Qualifications:
- Must enjoy and have interest in learning about gardening, plants and horticulture.
- Must be able to unload/ load work vehicle and carry several bags of heavy landscape materials weighing 50 lbs.
- Exhibit the highest work quality standards and attention to detail.
- Great work ethic.
- Professional appearance and demeanor (especially when greeting and working with our customers).
- Positive attitude.
- Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Have a valid Driver's License.
- Have a vehicle and be able to drive to different work locations (residential properties) in northern Virginia. An ideal candidate would also be able to travel to neighboring areas of Washington DC and Maryland. (Some travel time is compensated and gas reimbursed).
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather, with exposure to insects, sun, heat and cold.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools, such as pruners, electric saws, hedge-trimmers, string-trimmers and blowers.
- Must wear proper landscaping and gardening clothing, boots and PPE when needed. (Some provided).

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
