Role Description
Dills Architects is searching for a creative and dedicated Architectural Designer who is as interested in how things are built as they are in why they matter. This role is for someone who can think conceptually, work rigorously, and contribute meaningfully to a collaborative studio. This is a full-time, on-site role for an Architectural Designer located in Virginia Beach, VA.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to projects from early concept through construction administration, balancing creativity with technical rigor
- Conduct field investigations and incorporate findings into documentation
- Support code analysis and application of relevant standards and guidelines
- Develop and communicate ideas through diagrams, models, drawings, and presentations
- Build, manage, and maintain 3D models for design, visualization, and documentation goals
- Translate design direction, revisions, and comments/markups into resolved project documentation
- Produce and coordinate drawing sets across internal and consultant teams that are clear, accurate, and aligned with design intent
- Support construction administration tasks, including submittals, RFIs, pay applications, punch lists, and change orders
- Hold initiative in identifying gaps and opportunities, resolving issues, and helping to move both design and documentation forward
Qualifications
- Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch) with minimum 3 years of experience in a design-focused practice
- Demonstrated design strength: clear conceptual thinking paired with strong graphic and verbal communication
- Commitment to translating design intent into buildable solutions with experience in Construction Documentation required; experience across other phases (SD through CA) preferred
- Basic working knowledge of building systems, materials, detailing, and constructability
- Willingness to support teams fluidly across digital and analog media: sketch, model, and drawing
- Proficiency in Revit required, including model organization, documentation, and coordination
- Fluency in Rhino or SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite or Affinity, and visualization tools (Enscape, Lumion, etc.) is preferred
- Must be organized, self-directed, able to manage time across multiple efforts
- Clear communication with the ability to responsibly contribute in team settings and engage in client discussions
- Actively pursuing licensure (or intent to do so)
