Job Description:
We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to serve as a key technical contributor on advanced hardware programs. This role is hands-on throughout the hardware development lifecycle and focuses on board-level electrical design, subsystem integration, and high-reliability execution. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in digital, mixed-signal, and power design, with the ability to contribute to architecture discussions, support prototype bring-up and help drive robust designs from concept through manufacturing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and develop board-level electrical hardware, including schematic capture and component selection.
- Implement electrical interfaces across digital, analog, mixed-signal, and power domains.
- Integrate processors, sensors, high-speed interfaces up to 5-10 Gbps, and supporting electronics.
- Assist with FPGA electrical integration and power-distribution approaches; RTL development is not required.
- Collaborate with layout engineers to ensure signal integrity, manufacturability, and compliance.
- Perform board bring-up, electrical debug, validation, and troubleshooting in the lab.
- Develop test plans, validation procedures, and debug methodologies.
- Lead or support resolution of electrical issues across prototype and early production builds.
- Lead or support electrical design for SWaP-constrained systems, including power integrity and efficiency.
- Work with mechanical, systems, and embedded software teams to support subsystem-level integration.
- Participate in architecture and design reviews, trade studies, and technical discussions.
- Support DFM and DFT efforts and help transition designs into manufacturing.
- Perform electrical analysis, modeling, and simulation to mitigate technical risk.
- Provide guidance and informal mentorship to junior engineers.
- Collaborate with staff and senior staff engineers to ensure alignment with system-level objectives.
- Deliver high-quality, manufacturable board designs with strong adherence to requirements.
- Demonstrate reliable technical execution and strong ownership of assigned design tasks.
- Contribute thoughtful input to subsystem-level design and trade discussions.
- Communicate effectively across engineering disciplines.
- Help elevate hardware reliability, consistency, and design rigor within projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, or a related field; master’s degree preferred but not required.
- 8 years of experience in electronic design and hardware development.
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-reliability engineering environments.
- Strong experience with high-speed digital, mixed-signal, and power circuit design.
- Proficiency with schematic capture tools such as Mentor Graphics Xpedition and analysis/simulation tools such as LTspice.
- Familiarity with PLM/ERP tools.
- Experience with aerospace or defense environments, MIL-STD requirements, or DO-254 practices is a plus.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance.
- ESD and safety training required; may be completed within the first year.
