Job Description:
The Lead Buyer Leader is responsible for capital expenditure-related procurement activities supporting strategic growth projects across the Americas. This hands-on player/manager role will oversee and assist a team of order management personnel in procuring goods and services for major capital projects ranging from approximately USD 10 million to USD 500 million.
The position is responsible for the end-to-end procurement process for capital equipment and services bid packages, including managing the RFP process and supporting project closeout activities. The Lead Buyer Leader will work closely with project, engineering, procurement, and other business stakeholders to deliver new manufacturing capacity and support project execution, supplier performance, and cost objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop project purchasing strategies and coordinate procurement activities for assigned strategic growth projects.
- Ensure sourcing objectives, actions, and priorities are aligned across Global Capex Procurement, Global Engineering, and other key business partners.
- Procure goods and services required to bring manufacturing capacity online, including systems, sub-systems, equipment, spare parts, consulting, engineering, and planning services.
- Work closely with Global Category Management colleagues to execute agreed strategies in U.S. sites.
- Plan, lead, and execute negotiations of commercial terms and contract agreements for supply arrangements.
- Manage supplier relationships and serve as the primary point of contact within the project team.
- Drive awareness of supply issues, clarify business impact, and lead mitigation and resolution actions.
- Develop project risk management strategies and support implementation of appropriate mitigation plans.
- Work with Project Management to monitor supplier performance metrics and support tracking and reporting to strengthen supplier accountability.
- Partner with key stakeholders to develop cost reduction strategies and implementation plans aligned with project and business needs.
- Report project-related savings and maintain the project savings pipeline.
- Review and negotiate supplier change orders.
- Coordinate, lead, or participate in projects that improve Capex Procurement effectiveness and support common team targets.
- Support timely recruitment and staffing of project procurement resources for new capex projects.
- Manage procurement execution in a matrixed, cross-functional environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Purchasing, Engineering, Construction, or a related field.
- Experience in capex-heavy industries such as pharma, oil and gas, or technology.
- Solid commercial experience in procurement or sales, with capital and construction procurement experience preferred.
- CIPS, Six Sigma, Project Management, or equivalent certification preferred.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to develop commercial contracts and agreements.
- Strong project and procurement management skills.
- Demonstrated team leadership ability and effectiveness in matrixed, interdisciplinary environments.
- Strong business judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office, SAP, and Oracle Unifier.
