We are hiring a full-time Senior Tax Accountant to prepare and review federal and state tax returns for individuals and businesses. This role will own assigned client relationships throughout the tax preparation process while helping maintain strong quality-control standards across the firm. You’ll prepare both basic and complex returns, review work completed by other accountants, resolve technical tax and filing issues, and ensure returns are accurate, properly documented, and ready to file. This person should be technically strong, highly detail-oriented, and comfortable communicating directly with clients about complex tax matters. Full-time. Fully remote. Must be ENGLISH-SPEAKING.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare basic and complex federal and state tax returns for individuals and business entities, including partnerships and S corporations.
- Prepare returns involving K-1s, pass-through entities, and clients with multiple entity structures.
- Review returns prepared by other accountants for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable tax laws.
- Submit self-prepared returns for peer review in accordance with the firm’s quality-control process.
- Document review notes and confirm all required corrections are completed before approving returns for release.
- Ensure completed returns are technically accurate and fully approved before they are sent to clients by the Accounting Administrator.
- Review ProConnect diagnostics and troubleshoot technical preparation and electronic-filing issues.
- Review rejected federal and state returns, correct filing errors, and ensure returns are successfully accepted.
- Confirm all required federal and state filings have been accepted and that no technical issues remain outstanding.
- Communicate directly with assigned clients regarding missing information, tax questions, deadlines, balances due, refunds, and return status.
- Explain tax calculations, estimated payments, notices, penalties, and other technical tax matters to clients when needed.
- Own client outreach and follow-up throughout the tax preparation process.
- Ensure the tax team has all documents and information required to complete assigned returns.
- Manage or assist with the tax inbox, including client questions about filing status and correspondence from the IRS or state taxing authorities.
- Review tax notices, determine the appropriate response, and coordinate next steps with clients and firm leadership.
- Coordinate the preparation and mailing of elections, responses, returns, and other documents that cannot be filed electronically.
- Assist with bookkeeping, account cleanup, and reconciliation work as needed.
- Provide technical training and support to team members using ProConnect and other tax-related systems.
- Provide input on pricing for complex returns, unusual entity structures, bookkeeping cleanup, and engagements that fall outside standard pricing guidelines.
- Attend biweekly team meetings and support additional tax, accounting, and firmwide projects as needed.
- 3 years of professional experience working as an accountant, with hands-on experience preparing individual and business tax returns.
- Prior experience preparing and reviewing both individual and business tax returns.
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state taxation.
- Experience preparing partnership and S corporation returns and working with K-1s and pass-through entities.
- Experience with ProConnect, Canopy, DocuSign, and QuickBooks.
- Strong tax research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality control.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience communicating directly with clients.
- Comfortable working through complex tax issues and explaining them clearly to clients and internal team members.
- Ability to manage assigned clients and meet filing deadlines throughout tax season.
- Must own and be able to use a working computer with high-speed internet.
- Must be ENGLISH-SPEAKING.
- CPA, EA, or another relevant tax credential.
- Experience providing technical training or reviewing the work of other tax professionals.
- Experience with complex or multi-entity client structures.
- Experience with bookkeeping cleanup and reconciliation work.
