Digestive Disease Consultants is a busy gastroenterology practice located in Altamonte Springs with satellite locations in Lake Mary and Oviedo. We are seeking a dynamic, organized, and professional lab assistant to join our team.
Summary
Receive, distribute, and log specimens into the lab. Assign accession numbers and prepares the cassettes for grossing. Get specimens ready and in solutions as needed. Place on any machines as needed. Prepares histologic slides and assists with the shipment of boxes and supplies as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties as assigned.
- Receiving, unpacking, and labeling, accession number assigned, and grossing of histology specimens.
- Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate and infiltrate wax, and tissue specimens to be preserved for study by a pathologist. Appropriately stains slides.
- Performs routine H & E stains according to protocol.
- Prepares slides of specimens to enhance visibility under a microscope.
- Responsible for preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
- Equipment maintenance includes changing chemicals and cleaning.
- Prepares chemicals and stains for performing tests. Uses all chemicals following safety procedures.
- Inventory, unloading, and labeling of all supplies.
- Understands and follows all laboratory accreditation standards, OSHA, EPA, and CLIA.
- Keep accurate records including but not limited to: equipment preventive maintenance and repair, QA and QC records, temperature and equipment charts, safety procedures, exposure, and waste management.
- Keep labs clean and neatly organized.
- A completed high school diploma or GED.
- 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting (preferred but not required).
- Time management and customer service skills.
