Responsibilities
- Obtain pre-authorization for treatment procedures.
- Understand and explain insurance guidelines.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical billing regulations and compliance requirements
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure accurate documentation for billing purposes.
- Review patient records to ensure proper coding using ICD-9 and ICD-10 standards.
- Utilize medical coding systems effectively to assign appropriate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
- Prepare and submit accurate medical claims to insurance companies and government payers.
- Manage accounts receivable by following up on unpaid claims and resolving billing discrepancies.
- Conduct medical collections as necessary, including contacting patients regarding outstanding balances.
- Create and manage payment plans for patients.
- Generate reports on billing activities, including collections, denials, and adjustments.
Skills
- Proficiency in medical billing software and systems.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and coding practices, including DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) methodologies.
- Experience with medical collection processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers.
