Job Description:
Our mechanic shop is looking to grow at Diesel Power Truck Center. Located in Candler, NC, we are seeking a motivated individual who can thrive in a growing work environment. The idea candidate should be an initiative-taker with the ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles and machinery to ensure they operate safely and efficiently.
Mechanics perform a wide range of tasks depending on their specialization and work environment.
- Diagnosing mechanical issues using visual inspections, computerized diagnostic tools, and technical knowledge to identify problems in engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems
- Repairing and replacing faulty parts such as engines, brakes, tires, and electrical components to restore vehicle functionality.
- Performing routine maintenance including oil changes, tire rotations, brake servicing, engine tune-ups, and fluid checks to prevent breakdowns
- Ensuring safety and compliance by following proper safety protocols and maintaining a clean, organized work area
Mechanics work in repair shops, or fleet maintenance facilities. The role often requires the ability to pick up 40lbs plus, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or associate degrees in automotive technology are common
- Certifications: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification is highly valued.
- Technical skills: Knowledge of automotive electronics, computerized systems, and diagnostic tools
- Soft skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service abilities
Mechanics may specialize in areas such as engine repair, transmission systems, electrical systems, hybrid/electric vehicles, or heavy-duty machinery. Overall, a mechanic’s role is essential for vehicle safety, performance, and longevity, combining technical expertise with practical problem-solving and customer interaction.
