The Unarmed Security Guard maintains a safe and secure work environment for the Department of Natural Resources by providing a professional security presence that deters criminal behavior through vigilant monitoring of security systems and actively inspecting the work environment.
What You Will Do
Security Patrol & Monitoring
- Conducts security patrols by walking assigned areas per the established schedule and as needed to visually identify security risks and violations, including within buildings and exterior areas such as parking lots and loading docks
- Visually monitor alarm systems and video surveillance cameras for unauthorized or suspicious activities and respond according to protocols
- Is alert and watchful of any irregular situation that may be dangerous to others and the officer and appropriately follows established protocols
Incident Response & Emergency Management
- Alerts the proper authorities if unauthorized personnel or other criminal activity is identified
- Alerts the Fire Department and Emergency Management System in case of a fire or other emergency
- Assists in maintaining order during emergency situations
- Investigates reports of disturbance and writes Incident Reports of findings
Access Control & Facility Security
- Controls the ingress and egress to the building
- Monitors visitor access to ensure procedures are followed
- Physically secures equipment and/or areas as needed
Communication & Reporting
- Interacts with tenants and visitors in a professional, courteous manner
- Reports building issues to the Plant Manager in a timely manner
- Makes announcements over the building PA (public announcement) system
General Support
- Assists with snow removal
Qualifications:
What You Bring
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of six (6) months of professional security services experience required
- Law enforcement and/or military experience preferred
Skills & Abilities:
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
- Written and verbal communication
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with people with disabilities
- Ability to discern situations and identify when to escalate
- Time management and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to follow complex instructions
- Knowledge of security operations and procedures
- Demonstrate basic security and fire inspection procedures
- Implement surveillance skills
- Work well as part of a team and with minimal supervision
- Must maintain a professional appearance
- Must be able to obtain a CPR certification and perform CPR
