Qualifications:

TN Teaching License, with appropriate endorsement

Master's Degree and Certificate of Clinical Competence (current) State of TN Health Board License (current)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of effective speech/language therapeutic practices.

Adaptability in dealing with students with IEPs.

Possess strong writing, speaking, and human relations skills.

Function and maintain a positive rapport with all stakeholder groups.

Complies with Job Description for Classroom Teachers

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  1. Provide speech screening tests for all referred students.
  2. Provide diagnostic/evaluation testing for students failing speech screening.
  3. Create a treatment plan for students needing speech/language services.
  4. Participate in and/or create a student's IEP.
  5. Collect, maintain, record, and report student performance data in accordance to IEP.
  6. Provide therapy, follow-up, and/or consultation based on student IEPs.
  7. Make informed, timely educational recommendations/decisions.
  8. Participate in ongoing staff development to increase personal knowledge and skills.
  9. Comply with all federal, state, and local policies and procedures.
  10. Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Schools/Director of Special Education, or Administration.

Tools/Equipment Used:

Standard testing equipment; standard office equipment, including a computer

Posture:

Frequent sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion:

Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension

Lifting:

Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), occasional heaving lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint; assisting non-ambulatory students

Environment:

Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases; may require districtwide travel

Mental Demands:

Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure
