PART-TIME POSITION
RATE OF PAY $21.00 PERHOUR
Seeking a part time tutor to work with youth involved with the Juvenile Court system. Hours vary, but average is 15 hours per week when school is in session. Starting pay is $21.00 an hour. We are seeking someone with an educational background and experience in working with youth in middle and high school. A background in math is a plus.
SUMMARY
The employee will be expected to work closely with the juvenile officer, local school personnel, students, and families. They must demonstrate competence in communicating effectively with youth and parents, court staff and school staff. Must possess an understanding of the needs and motivations of high-risk youth.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
- Review classroom or curriculum topics and assignments.
- Assist students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks.
- Work with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom.
- Teach skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions.
- Recognize different learning styles and student preferences.
- Provide a positive role model for high-risk youth.
- Adhere to all court orders in effect for assigned students.
- Evaluate student academic progress, attitude, and participation.
- Effectively communicates with school staff, parents, juveniles and the juvenile officer.
