Role Description The Team Captain role is a full-time, on-site position based at the DICK’S Sporting Goods store in Omaha, NE. The Team Captain leads and supports store teammates by modeling outstanding customer service, helping athletes find the right gear, and ensuring the sales floor is clean, organized, and well-stocked. This role assists with daily operations such as opening and closing procedures, merchandising, inventory checks, and maintaining visual standards that align with company guidelines. The Team Captain helps coordinate communication between store leadership and teammates, provides on-the-job guidance and coaching, and promotes a safe, inclusive environment for customers and staff. Day-to-day responsibilities also include resolving customer concerns, supporting sales goals, and contributing to an energetic, sports-focused culture.
Qualifications
- Experience in retail, customer service, or a related field, with the ability to engage athletes and customers in a friendly, knowledgeable manner.
- Leadership capabilities, including team coordination, coaching, and the ability to motivate others to achieve store goals.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with teammates and store leadership.
- Basic merchandising and inventory awareness, including attention to detail and ability to follow visual and operational standards.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, physically active environment, including standing for extended periods and handling merchandise as needed.
- Demonstrated reliability, integrity, and commitment to an inclusive, non-discriminatory workplace focused on safety and respect.
- Interest in sports and sporting goods; prior experience or knowledge in athletics or fitness is beneficial.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; previous supervisory or lead experience in retail is a plus.
