What are the responsibilities and job description for the Carpenter position at Diamond Head Theatre?
Job Summary: Supports the Technical Director and Associate Technical Director on all aspects of technical support for productions produced at Diamond Head Theatre. Assist with set construction, load-in, tech rehearsals, strike and/or storage of all scenic pieces for Diamond Head Theatre productions. Scene Shop/Production Operations§ Assist with set construction, load-in, tech rehearsals, strike and/or storage of all scenic pieces for Diamond Head Theatre productions. § Perform carpentry and other related work for theatrical projects.§ Position scenic, rigging elements, and related equipment as directed for performances.§ Use hand and power tools to cut, shape, and fabricate materials according to project specifications.§ Inspect, maintain and repair stage equipment and update maintenance and inspection records.§ Develop a thorough knowledge of all carpentry and rigging department equipment specific to the production in order to operate equipment safely.§ Assist the Technical Director and Production Team in the implementation of preventative maintenance routines and inspections.§ Ensure all departmental designs, equipment, systems, functions, procedures, show tracks, maintenance and inspections logs, special projects, etc. are properly and adequately documented.§ Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to productions; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training.§ Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Diamond Head Theatre standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods.§ Help maintain a clean and safe working environment.§ Assist and support other departments when necessary in facility maintenance primarily when beyond scope of administrative or maintenance staff.§ Complete all other job-related duties as assigned, which may be amended from time to time as workload and duties evolve. Required Skills / Abilities:§ Carpentry work (3-5 years).§ Strong knowledge of carpentry tools and equipment.§ Working knowledge of ANSI/ASSE Z359.1-2020, ANSI E1.42-2016.§ Knowledge of fall protection and overall safety training.§ Ability to obtain OSHA 10 course completion card.§ Knowledge of basic theatrical rigging, basic mechanics, electricity and electronics is an asset.§ ETCP certification an asset.§ Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.§ Strong attention to detail and accuracy, and precision in measurements.§ Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision.§ Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.§ Preferably current valid driver’s license. Physical Requirements:§ Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.§ The ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.§ The ability to move safely over obstacles/uneven terrain or in confined spaces.§ The ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 20-30 pounds.
