We are looking for a detail-oriented, experienced Estimator to join our team and play a crucial role in driving project success and company growth.
Position Summary:
The Earthworks / Site Prep Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for complex civil construction projects including earthwork, grading, utilities, and site development. This role combines technical estimating skills with the ability to develop strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. The successful candidate will have hands-on knowledge of the field, excellent analytical skills, and proven experience in the across Texas market.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead on site prep and underground utility projects.
- Perform take-offs, blueprint/spec analysis, soils report review, and site visits to assess conditions.
- Utilize software such as Bluebeam, HeavyBid, AGTEK, and AutoCAD for accurate quantity takeoffs and estimate development.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to ensure estimates align with operational constraints.
- Solicit, analyze, and negotiate subcontractor and vendor pricing to secure favorable terms.
- Prepare proposals and bid packages for submission; update estimates based on addenda and clarifications.
- Track actual costs vs. estimates; apply cost control measures and productivity data for continuous improvement.
- Contribute to project schedules, budgets, and value-engineering opportunities.
- Maintain organized documentation and historical data for trend analysis and benchmarking.
- Represent the company at pre-bid meetings, jobsite visits, and client/vendor negotiations.
- Support business development by building relationships with contractors, developers, municipalities, and engineers.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in civil/site prep estimating (earthwork, utilities, excavation); Central Texas market experience preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
- Software Proficiency: Bluebeam, HeavyBid, AGTEK, AutoCAD; MS Office (Excel).
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of construction management principles and cost control.
- Ability to interpret plans, specs, and technical documents.
- Solid negotiation and vendor relationship skills.
- Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
- Effective communication skills (English required; bilingual English/Spanish preferred).
- Additional: Valid driver’s license; ability to conduct site visits; willingness to work extended hours/weekends as needed.
Preferred Experience:
- focused on Earthwork estimating, including grading, cut/fill balancing, and soil compaction productivity factors.
- Possible underground utilities estimating (water, sewer, storm drainage). Not mandatory.
- Familiarity with Texas regulatory requirements, permitting, and geotechnical conditions.
- Existing client/contractor relationships in the Austin–San Antonio corridor.
- OSHA 10/30 Certification a plus.
