Our Dialysis Unit has 55 beds and 230 employees; the ICU at MD Anderson provides patient focused care through a multidisciplinary team approach.   Quality and patient outcomes are at the heart of our practice.  The ICU team participates in Evidence Based Practice, unit and hospital-based committees, and local and national conferences. 

Ideal candidate must have graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing, current Texas RN license and a minimum of one year of recent RN experience in an ICU setting.  ACLS and BLS are required.

Working Hours: The working hours will be 7:30pm to 8am  12 hrs. shift , with alternating weekends and holidays.

Experienced Clinical Nurses receive a very competitive compensation package which includes fully covered medical premiums, Teacher’s Retirement Services (TRS) contribution, generous Paid-Time-Off and certification pay.

PLUS - nurses will earn up to $8,320 in annual unit-based differentials for all inpatient units. In addition, Evening/Night nurses will be eligible for shift differential pay.

Clinical Nurses relocating from 100 miles from MD Anderson will also qualify for up to $10,000 in relocation assistance!

Key Nursing Functions

  • Specialty expertise in multiple renal therapies, including:
    • Intermittent Hemodialysis (IHD)
    • Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)
    • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
    • Apheresis (preferred)
  • Provide specialized nephrology nursing care across multiple settings, including:
    • Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
    • Acute Care/ER (ACCC/ER)
    • Other clinical environments as needed
  • Deliver life-saving patient care during:
    • Regularly scheduled shifts
    • On-call rotations
      Daily schedules may vary based on patient needs.
  • Demonstrate leadership in nursing practice and serve as a role model when functioning as charge nurse, under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee.
  • Participate in established quality improvement studies and departmental initiatives.
  • Provide nursing care in accordance with:
    • MDACC policies and compliance standards
    • Dialysis Department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • Applicable AAMI, TJC, CMS, federal, state, and local regulations
  • Consistently represent MDACC’s culture by upholding core values and customer service standards.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Daily responsibilities include:
    • Desk and computer work
    • Direct interaction with patients, hospital staff, and physicians
  • Participation in an on-call rotation is required.
  • Work environment is typical of a healthcare setting, including:
    • Climate-controlled conditions
    • Moderate noise levels
  • Potential exposure to infectious and contagious materials.
  • Position involves direct patient care, which may require:
    • Heavy lifting
    • Patient transfers and repositioning
    • Assisting with ambulation (with equipment and/or team support)
  • Physical requirements include:
    • Prolonged standing
    • Bending and maneuvering dialysis equipment weighing over 200 lbs.
    • Lifting chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs. to a height of approximately 5 feet

Education

  • Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.

Work Experience

  • Required: None

Licenses and Certification

  • Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license. Upon Hire and
  • Required: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Upon Hire and
  • Required: PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support If working in the following department: Nrsg Post Anesthesia Care Unit (600160). Upon Hire
  • Preferred: OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification Upon Hire
  • Preferred: Certification in specialty practice area. Upon Hire

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
