Duties

• Review medical documentation to assign appropriate ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes for billing purposes
• Ensure accurate coding of diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems and CPT coding guidelines
• Prepare and submit clean claims for insurance reimbursement using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through medical collection processes, ensuring timely resolution
• Maintain detailed medical records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and confidentiality standards
• Collaborate with medical office staff to verify patient information and update records as needed
• Stay current with changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and billing regulations to optimize reimbursement efficiency

Experience

• Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting or medical office environment
• Strong knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, CPT coding procedures, and DRG classifications
• Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare documentation standards
• Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for billing, coding, and record keeping
• Ability to interpret complex medical reports and accurately assign appropriate codes
• Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple claims efficiently
• Prior experience in medical collections is a plus but not required
