This Position is responsible for performing venipuncture, administering vaccines, and issuing urine specimen containers.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This Position is responsible for performing venipuncture, administering vaccines, and issuing urine specimen containers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Verifies patient by utilizing two or more identifiers.
- Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood specimens.
- Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients as directed by physician and follows medical practice protocols related to safety, infection control, and confidentiality.
- Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection.
- Stores and distributes samples to designated departments.
- Conducts laboratory tests on specimens.
- Maintains daily tallies of collections performed and enters data into lab information system.
- Assists patients before, during, and after venipuncture. Gives instructions on urine collection procedures.
- Aids in the recovery of patients having adverse reactions.
- Cleans/sterilizes equipment, instruments, and work area following safety, cleanliness, and infection control procedures.
- Monitors storage temperatures and tracks expiration dates on refrigerated supplies.
- Inventories supplies and places orders to ensure adequate supplies for procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
A.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of phlebotomy techniques
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Familiarity of clinic protocols and policies
- Knowledge of HIPAA
- Skill in performing efficient and effective venipuncture
- Skill in conducting cooperative interactions with patients and staff
- Skills in prioritizing tasks and time management
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to interpret and respond appropriately to instructions
- Ability to coordinate eye–hand movements to ensure patient comfort during venipuncture
- Ability to build rapport with patients and co-workers
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent standing and walking to assist patients and team members
- Occasional lifting of office supplies or medical files up to 25 pounds
- Ability to move quickly in response to patient or office needs
- Clear vision and hearing to interact effectively with patients and team members
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Phlebotomist Certification
- 1-2 years’ experience
SAFETY HAZARDS OF THE JOB:
Minimal hazards. Equipment used: Blood draw equipment including needles, syringes, tubes, bandages, and other appropriate supplies.
