What are the responsibilities and job description for the Front Desk / Medical Assistant - Behavioral Health position at DHVAJ?
Front Desk Duties:
- Greet patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
- Schedule and confirm appointments via phone, patient portal, or in-person
- Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures
- Verify insurance eligibility and collect co-pays or balances
- Maintain accurate patient records in the EHR (Electronic Health Record) system
- Respond to phone calls, voicemails, and patient inquiries
- Coordinate with therapists, psychiatrists, and case managers for scheduling and communication
- Ensure a clean and welcoming front office environment
Medical Assistant Duties:
- Obtain and document patient vitals, health history, and reason for visit
- Assist clinicians with procedures, assessments, or documentation as needed
- Prepare treatment rooms and ensure cleanliness and readiness
- Manage medication samples, inventory, and refills under provider supervision
- Administer screenings or assessments (e.g., PHQ-9, GAD-7) as directed
- Ensure HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality at all times
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred
- Prior experience in behavioral health, mental health, or medical office setting strongly preferred
- Proficiency in EHR systems (e.g., Athenahealth, Kareo, etc.)
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with individuals experiencing mental health or emotional distress with compassion and professionalism
