Protocol Specialist

Duties

• Plan, coordinate, and execute all protocol related functions for the senior Department of the Army leadership
• Work independently, for assigned activities to conceptualize, plan, coordinate, and execute high level military and civilian, foreign and domestic visits/functions, ceremonies and special events hosted by senior Department of Army leadership
• Conceptualize, plan, coordinate, and execute administrative and protocol details of the Executive Office of the Headquarters Conference Program
• Respond to requests for advice/assistance in all matters/activities relative to proper protocol procedures
• Participate in the development and implementation of Army-Wide protocol policy

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• May be required to travel up to 25% of the time.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.

Specialized Experience GS-13- One year of specialized experience which includes planning and executing all protocol aspects of visits and special ceremonies of high-ranking dignitaries; conducting formal and informal briefings, and/or advising on proper protocol procedures; providing recommendations and assisting in the establishment of an effective protocol policy. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
