Position Summary:
DG Foods is looking for a Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) Supervisor for its Hazlehurst, MS facility. This person supports the FSQA department with maintaining proper documentation of products and processes while driving quality policies, procedures, and company and product standards. This position reports to the FSQA Manager.
Essential Job Functions:
Job duties are as follows, but not limited to:
- Provide leadership, guidance, training, and risk management for all food safety and quality programs and systems to include, but not limited to, HACCP, Pre-Requisite Programs such as GMP’s and SSOP’s, Preventative controls, risk assessments, GFSI BRC and related programs, USDA PVP, Food Defense, customer and other 3rd party audit-driven requirements and policies.
- Ensures that all food safety, product quality and regulatory requirements exceed industry and customer standards, are implemented, documented, trained and documented with all necessary associates and everyone is following company standards.
- Responsible for supporting the development, implementation, review, maintenance, and auditing of all GFSI BRC, and other BRC-related plans, quality programs, supporting programs, and documentation.
- Prevents HACCP, SSOP and process or product failures by training and working with Food Safety and Quality Assurance staff members and Operations to drive continuous improvement of product quality through developing food safety and quality plans, process controls, attention to process and specifications, food safety and quality training.
- Perform special assignments as needed for the department including daily product cuttings, production tests, data collection, upstream process evaluation and problem solving.
- Ensures that operational and pre-operational sanitation is acceptable. Attending pre-operational inspections to assess effectiveness of programs, Implements and develops necessary verification activities including micro sampling to verify the effectiveness of sanitation activities. Acts in response to micro and Shelf-Life data to drive improvement.
- Investigates to determine Root Cause and Implement corrective action and preventive measures to include changes to current programs and training of staff to resolve product quality issues.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all CFR and other federal poultry, sanitation, and HACCP regulations by training, ensuring documentation of all records, performing direct observations as needed, daily records review.
- Be a company liaison between USDA FSIS and the facility to develop and foster a strong working relationship with local, and district USDA FSIS inspection personnel.
- Hires and trains food safety and quality assurance staff.
- Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of the department.
- Ensures equipment is properly calibrated, cleaned, and sanitized at proper frequencies that is used by the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Department.
- Take appropriate steps to ensure safety awareness among employees.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the manager of Food Safety and Quality Assurance department.
Job Requirements:
- At least eighteen (18) years of age.
- A bachelor’s degree in food science, Animal Science, Biological Sciences, or closely related disciplines with at least two (2) years of experience, preferably in a poultry processing industry (but must have experience with dealing with USDA FSIS Inspection), with specific experience managing HACCP and GFSI BRC Programs preferred.
- Solid understanding and experience executing HACCP and prerequisite programs such as SSOP, GMP, etc. is highly preferred.
- Strong leadership and management skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Must be legally eligible to work in accordance with federal and state law.
- Must have dependable transportation to and from DG Food facilities, no exceptions.
- Must be able to work various hours/holidays/weekends as required.
- Must have the ability to learn and process information in a timely manner.
- Must be able to work well in a team environment.
- Must be able to work in a cooler (sometimes as low as 28 degrees)
- Must have a working knowledge of the use of tablets (iPad, Kindle Fire, etc.) for paper free FSQA records keeping.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, etc.)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a cold and wet environment for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in an office environment.
- Ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- Constantly operates a tablet or Computer and other related resources for extended periods of time.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Specific of factory abilities required by this job include being able to detect a wide range of smells, odors, and aromas.
- Specific tactile abilities required by this job include being able to detect a wide range of characteristics by touch of an object.
