Job Overview
DFW Airport is seeking a skilled Electronics Technician to support, maintain, and repair critical airport electronic systems that keep one of the world's busiest airports operating safely and efficiently. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented technician with experience in electronics, troubleshooting, system upgrades, and field diagnostics.
What You’ll Do
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, program, and monitor a wide range of airport electronic systems, including:
- Traffic Signal Systems
- Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems
- Automated Access Control Systems (AACS)
- Airfield temperature sensor systems
- Additional airport electronics infrastructure
- Perform software upgrades and system modifications using laptops and specialized applications.
- Diagnose faulty components and circuits using oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, and other electronic test equipment.
- Replace wiring, components, and electronic parts using hand tools, precision tools, and soldering equipment.
- Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Assist Project Managers and Design Engineers with contractor coordination and system specification development.
- Maintain detailed repair, calibration, and test records in compliance with Federal and Airport Board requirements.
- Work closely with Facility Service Coordinators and QA staff to support contractor-maintained systems.
- Assist Environmental Affairs by identifying and reporting any environmental impacts observed during field work.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three (3) years of experience in electronic systems repair and maintenance.
- Formal training in general electronics.
- Ability to pass:
- Medical physical exam
- SIDA clearance within 30 days
- DOT drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment random)
- AOA driver training requirements within 30 days
- Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.
- Must meet Essential Employee requirements during emergencies or inclement weather.
Key Skills and Expertise
- Knowledge of installation, maintenance, and repair of:
- Fire Alarm, AACS, CCTV, UPS, and related electronic systems
- 120VAC and 220VAC equipment
- Fiber optics installation, testing, and repair
- Programmable logic controls (PLCs)
- Proficiency with electronic test equipment and precision tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and schematics.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and basic networking concepts.
- Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to maintain accurate work records and assist with planning/evaluation activities.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work harmoniously with internal and external partners.
Working Conditions
- Work performed in shop, industrial, outdoor, and airfield environments.
- Frequent exposure to inclement weather, confined spaces, elevated heights, and noisy environments.
- Regular use of hand, power, and precision tools.
- Requires lifting up to 25 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally.
- Climbs ladders, kneels, crouches, and works overhead for extended periods.
- Uses near-visual acuity, color perception, and fine motor skills for diagnostics and repairs.
- Operates airport vehicles and responds to field calls across airport property.
