Overview
The Digital Communications Systems Technician (DCS Tech) installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots telecommunications and network systems, including PBX, VoIP, cloud communication platforms (MS Teams, WebEx, Zoom), servers, and cabling infrastructure. Provides technical support, performs system upgrades and repairs, manages voice and data communications equipment, and works with vendors and internal teams to ensure reliable communication services. Experience with copper/fiber cabling, network troubleshooting, and enterprise telecommunication systems is required.
Experience Required:
- This classification requires at least three (3) years of experience in the installation, configuration, testing, maintenance, and repair of digital telephone private branch exchange (PBX) and key switching systems.
- One (1) year must have been at the journey-level.
Additional Experience Required:
Five or more years of experience with NEC PBX systems, Nortel Norstar Key phone system (MICS, Call-pilot, Trunk/station modules, RAD) and VOIP products (Cisco, Microsoft Teams Voice)
Skills Required:
- The DCS Tech will possess knowledge of the protocols, procedures, techniques, and equipment used to install, configure, test, maintain, and repair telephone and Internet based digital communications systems, private branch exchange (PBX) and key switching systems, Cloud Services, and related equipment; or, network telecommunications circuits, and data communications equipment such as modems.
- They will have the ability to troubleshoot circuits, systems, infrastructure, and equipment. They will possess knowledge and experience in customer services; interpersonal skills; decision making; organization awareness; problem solving; oral communication; and ability to troubleshoot issues.
Education Required:
This classification requires a high school diploma or GED certificate.
Valid class C driver’s license with no restrictions. Physical dexterity, color perception, and visual acuity are required to perform essential job-related functions effectively and safely.
Pay: $25.00 - $45.00 per hour
