Position: Assistant Throws Coach – DHS Track & Field

Hours (subject to change):
Monday - Friday 3:00 PM – 6:00PM Practices Weekday and weekend practices & events
Rate of Pay: Based on experience and guidelines as established by the district
Qualifications:
- Successful high school or college experience in track and field, with a strong understanding of throwing events
- Experience as a coach/assistant coach preferred
- Demonstrate working knowledge of track and throwing events
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate is desirable
- Knowledge of weight training and conditioning techniques
- Previous experience working with students
- Candidate should demonstrate interest in, and aptitude for, performing the assignment of assistant coach
- MHSAA P.A.C.E. Program recommended for all coaches
- Knowledge of CPR and First Aid recommended
Performance Responsibilities:
- Work as a team member of the coaching staff
- Provide support and assistance to the high school track program
- Assist in preparing training/practice sessions, meet preparations and team travel arrangements
- Maintain a professional competency by attending clinics and state rule meetings as needed
- Ability to complete other trainings as necessary to provide a safe environment for student athletes as assigned by the district
- Ability to provide effective leadership to student athletes to encourage both successful academic development and competitive performance
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, administration, players and staff
- Submit an annual record of contest results and records
- Assist in supervising the issuance, cleaning, storage, return and care of all athletic equipment
- Assist in purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as necessary
- Assist in overseeing the safety conditions of area when team is practicing
- Assist in enforcing disciplined behavior, code of fair play
- Assist in establishing and overseeing penalties for not following school standards and rules; report all incidents to head coach and/or Athletic Director
- Attend practices and meets punctually
- Use professional conduct, language and decorum with staff, teammates, opponents, officials and fans
- Assist in maintaining player eligibility information
- Assist in maintaining physical forms, training rule forms signed by parents, team attendance records and medical emergency contact information
- Assist in teaching individuals the skills necessary for the highest possible achievement in their sport
- Adhere to the rules and regulations as detailed by MHSAA, Dexter Community Schools Board of Education policies and all other applicable policies and guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned by head coach and/or Athletic Director
