What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic position at DeWitt Public Schools?
Summary
The Mechanic position is responsible for maintaining the district’s buses and fleet vehicles in a safe, reliable and efficient operating condition to support uninterrupted transportation services for the educational program in compliance with all state and federal regulations.
Reports to
Transportation Supervisor
Qualifications/Requirements
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Associate Degree in Automotive and/or Diesel Mechanics preferred
- Valid CDL license with applicable state endorsements
- School Bus Certification or willingness to obtain
- Experience in school district transportation operations preferred
- Technical training in both gas- and diesel-powered vehicles
- Heavy Duty truck repair experience required
- Master Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification or willingness to obtain
- Certified or capable of obtaining certification in engine repair-diesel; drive train; brakes and braking system; suspension and steering systems; electrical systems
- Exhibit positive attitude, leadership and human relation skills
- Ability to work independently in a self-directed manner
- Good organizational skills
Compensation
Per DESPA Union Contract, Class VI – 14 position
Work Schedule
8.0 hours per work day; 52 weeks per year
