Site/Civil Engineer

Dewberry is currently seeking a Site/Civil Project Engineer for our Site/Civil Department in our Richmond, Virginia office. The individual will join a growing team providing comprehensive civil engineering services to public and private sector clients, with an emphasis on energy utility projects.

The ideal candidate will have strong land development design experience and the technical ability to lead the day-to-day civil design of projects under the direction of a Project Manager. This position is well suited for an engineer who is proficient in Civil 3D, can independently advance designs from concept through construction documents, and is comfortable providing technical guidance and training to junior staff.

Experience supporting energy and utility projects, particularly solar, electric transmission, or electric distribution projects, is preferred.

Lead and coordinate site/civil design efforts under the direction of the Project Manager.
• Develop civil designs from conceptual layouts through final construction documents and permitting.
• Perform and/or lead design of grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, roadways, utilities, and other site infrastructure.
• Develop and manage Civil 3D design files, surfaces, alignments, profiles, grading models, pipe networks, and construction plan production.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, and other technical staff to meet project scope, schedule, and quality requirements.
• Provide day-to-day technical guidance, design review, and training to junior engineers and designers.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and members of the overall project team.
• Support preparation of construction documents, specifications, technical reports, engineering analyses, cost estimates, and permit packages.
• Assist Project Managers with technical coordination, agency comments, client coordination, and resolution of design issues.
• Establish and track design milestones in coordination with the Project Manager and communicate potential schedule or technical issues early.
• Perform quality control reviews and help ensure consistency and technical accuracy of project deliverables.
• Other duties as required.

• BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 2-6 years of experience in site/civil or land development engineering.
• Demonstrated experience with grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, private entrances, and private roadways.
• Strong proficiency in Civil 3D and demonstrated ability to develop civil engineering designs with some independence.
• Experience preparing civil construction documents, exhibits, calculations, and technical reports.
• Experience providing technical direction, mentoring, or training to junior engineers or designers is preferred.
• Experience with energy and utility projects, including solar, electric transmission, and/or electric distribution projects, is preferred.
• Experience with public roadway and water/sewer design is a plus.
• Experience coordinating designs with other disciplines is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple design assignments and meet established project schedules.
• EIT certification preferred. PE licensure is a plus but not required.
• Experience with Bluebeam, GIS, Microsoft applications, and stormwater modeling software is preferred.
• Ability to become proficient in Dewberry engineering practices, standards, and Dewberry-specific software.

The projected range for this position is $82,000-$106,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
