Job Summary
Tesla is seeking a 3D Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of next-generation liquid-cooled data center infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience designing complex mechanical assemblies, liquid cooling systems, and server rack infrastructure for data centers or HPC environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop 3D mechanical assemblies including:
- Server racks
- Brackets, rails, adapters
- Cooling manifolds and fluid connectors
- Design and integrate liquid cooling systems (CDMs, manifolds, connectors).
- Integrate mechanical components with electrical systems including:
- Busbars
- Power Shelves
- BBUs (Battery Backup Units)
- Create and maintain:
- 3D CAD models
- 2D manufacturing drawings
- BOMs
- Engineering documentation
- Perform CFD and FEA simulations for thermal and structural validation.
- Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Hardware, and Facilities teams.
- Participate in design reviews and ensure compliance with OCP, ASHRAE, and EIA standards.
- Support rapid prototyping using 3D printing and other fabrication methods.
- Utilize AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Codex to improve engineering workflows and productivity.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 4 years of mechanical design experience.
- Experience designing Data Center or High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure.
- Strong experience with:
- SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar 3D CAD software
- CFD simulation tools
- FEA analysis
- Experience with liquid cooling system design.
- Knowledge of:
- Data center mechanical infrastructure
- Rack-level design
- Busbars
- Power Shelves
- Battery Backup Units (BBUs)
- Understanding of OCP, ASHRAE, and EIA standards.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience using Claude Code, Codex, or similar AI-assisted engineering tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing hyperscale or AI data centers.
- Digital Twin development experience.
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
- Experience with BIM/Revit.
- Background in rack-level thermal optimization and modular cooling solutions.
