Overnight Kennel Operator (Entry-Level)

Pay: $18.00 per hour
Job Summary
The Overnight Kennel Operator plays a critical role in the daily operations of the Devotion to Dogs facility. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and fully functional kennel and training environment during overnight hours.
This is an entry-level position with a primary focus on facility cleaning and sanitation. Training will be provided on proper dog handling and care after onboarding. Candidates must be responsible, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently overnight around dogs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain indoor kennel cleanliness at all times during the shift
- Clean, wipe down, and disinfect kennels, baskets, and all facility areas daily
- Sign off on the daily condition of the facility after each shift
- Vacuum, sweep, mop, and sanitize all assigned areas
- Perform feces pick-up throughout the entire shift
- Wash, disinfect, fold, organize, and store all animal laundry
- Wash and disinfect all food and water dishes
- Prepare dog food and feed dogs according to daily feeding charts
- Prepare treats and food for training dogs for the following day
- Take dogs outside on schedule or on-demand and install training tools when directed
- Ensure all electronic equipment are properly charged daily
- Monitor dogs for behavior, stress, or excessive noise and report concerns
- Prepare incoming and outgoing dogs, including:
- Washing dogs
- Cleaning personal kennels
- Gathering and professionally packaging personal items for owners
- Pick up, organize, and store all training tools and equipment daily
- Perform minor maintenance and specialty cleaning tasks
- Clean and spray designated facility grounds during the shift
- Complete required daily reports after each shift
- Report repair needs, inventory shortages, scheduling concerns, or personnel issues to management promptly
Requirements
- Proficient in English (verbal and written)
- Strong attention to cleanliness and organization
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to take direction when needed
- Comfortable working alone and overnight
- Comfortable working around animals with no restrictions
- Basic handyman and facility maintenance skills preferred
- High school diploma preferred (or currently working toward one)
- Ability to use basic cleaning and yard tools (brooms, shovels, vacuums, rakes, etc.)
- Knowledge of basic cleaning equipment (washing machines, sinks, dishwashers)
- Valid driver’s license required
Physical Demands
- Regular walking and standing in high-activity environments
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and reaching
- Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs, occasional lifting up to 75 lbs
- Constant interaction with animals throughout the shift
Work Environment
- Kennel and facility setting
- Noise levels range from moderate to loud due to animals
