Construction and Facility Maintenance

Construction and facility maintenance tend to the needs of the nursery in relation to irrigation maintenance or upgrades, carpentry needs, various projects such as shade house builds, paint, concrete work, etc.

Essential Functions:

• Tends to any moderate to severe irrigation repairs or upgrades.
• Grade/level needed areas of the nursery, add gravel and posts.
• Replace nursery posts, add head level wire to sections for tree ties.
• May need to make pallets
• Assists in various constructions projects taking place at the nursery such as pouring concrete, building shade houses, etc.
• Performs miscellaneous building or yard maintenance tasks as needed
• General care for the nursery grounds, keeping the nursery clean, organized, and safe for employees, customers, and vendors.
• Travel to other nursery locations for construction or repair projects may be needed from time to time.
• Various tasks as directed by Yard Management.

Additional Tasks:

• May assist in other nursery departments as needed.
• Duties are subject to change at any time per management’s discretion.

Job Specifications:

Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions on uneven ground surfaces and rainy weather. Must be able to remain in a stationary position (standing/sitting). Extensive walking. Stooping, kneeling, and crouching required. Bending at the waist, twisting, turning, and squatting is required.

Lifting requirements: Up to 60 lbs. 50% of the time. Up to 100 lbs. 25% of the time (team lift techniques when required).

Hand movement: Gross grasping for moving plant material. Use of hands/fingers.
