Senior Design Engineer - Generator Systems (PE Required)

Devil Dogs Manufacturing
Fort Worth, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 9/28/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/25/2027

About the role

Devil Dogs Manufacturing LLC is a veteran-owned manufacturer of modular enclosures for stationary and mobile generators. We are hiring a senior engineer in Fort Worth to turn customer specifications and our design team's concepts into engineered genset packages and detailed drawings used to build them.

Reporting to our Director of Engineering and Design, you will have equal mechanical and electrical responsibility for hospital standby systems and data center generator units up to 4 MW (4,000 kW) on projects in multiple states. You will personally calculate, select components, model, draft, and support fabrication and testing, with professional responsibility for assigned engineering deliverables.

What you will do

  • Translate customer specifications, load requirements, operating conditions, and internal concepts into a documented design basis. Resolve missing information, duty ratings, and project-specific performance requirements before release.
  • Engineer the mechanical package, including equipment layout, mounts, skids, enclosures, ventilation, cooling, and fuel and exhaust interfaces. Check performance, service access, and compatibility with engine and alternator requirements.
  • Engineer electrical one-lines, power and control schematics, component and conductor selections, protection, grounding and bonding, and auxiliary power. Coordinate interfaces with generator controllers, transfer switches, paralleling equipment, switchgear, and facility designers.
  • Personally produce 3D models and fabrication and assembly drawings, plus electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and interconnection details. Resolve interfaces between disciplines and identify any specialist analyses needed.
  • Prepare bills of materials and purchasing specifications. Evaluate supplier proposals and substitutions for technical suitability, cost, availability, and impact on the design.
  • Identify applicable customer requirements, codes, and product standards for each project. Coordinate compliance evidence with facility designers, suppliers, and testing or certification resources as required by the scope.
  • Sign, date, and seal eligible final engineering documents you prepare or directly supervise, within your competence and the applicable project jurisdiction's licensure requirements. Coordinate licensed specialist contributions where needed.
  • Define acceptance-test requirements and support fabrication, assembly, and factory testing. Investigate mechanical, electrical, and integration problems and carry approved corrections into drawings and bills of materials.
  • Help select CAD and engineering tools, establish drawing templates and component libraries, and manage revisions and final equipment records. Build a practical process for engineering review and document release.

Required qualifications

  • Active Texas PE license required before Texas-licensed duties begin. Ability to obtain and maintain additional state licenses as projects require. Applicants already licensed elsewhere may be considered, subject to obtaining required licensure before assigned regulated work.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Five or more years of relevant engineering design experience, including equipment taken through fabrication, assembly, and testing.
  • Hands-on design and integration of generator packages for critical power applications, with mechanical and electrical calculations and drawings personally completed.
  • Hands-on proficiency with 3D mechanical CAD and electrical drafting tools. Ability to help select software and personally produce fabrication, assembly, schematic, wiring, and interconnection drawings.
  • Demonstrated competence to perform the assigned mechanical and electrical engineering and assume professional responsibility for eligible deliverables. Recognize when additional licensed specialists are needed.
  • Experience creating bills of materials, managing drawing revisions, and solving technical problems with manufacturing teams and suppliers.
  • Ability to work independently, explain technical decisions clearly, and raise design or schedule concerns early.

Preferred experience

  • Projects serving large gensets and interfaces with transfer switches, paralleling switchgear, and supervisory controls.
  • Generator enclosure airflow, acoustic performance, vibration control, and thermal management.
  • Working knowledge of relevant requirements such as NFPA 70, NFPA 110, NFPA 99, and UL 2200, as applicable to project scope.
  • Existing PE licenses in multiple states and an established NCEES Record to support additional license applications.

What you can contribute

  • This position offers direct involvement in the equipment you design, from initial requirements through drawings and the build. You will work with our design leadership and help establish the software, drawing standards, and engineering release practices used on future projects.

How to apply

  • Submit your resume, PE license state or states and number or numbers, and a brief description of a generator or power equipment project you engineered. Describe your mechanical and electrical contributions, drawings, calculations, and sealing responsibility. Interview examples may be redacted or fictional; share only authorized material.
