POSITION TITLE:

PURPOSE:
The primary function of the Employment Consultant is to assist persons to choose, obtain and retain integrated employment in the community. The Employment Consultant will initially assess, job develop, train and provide ongoing support for individuals with disabilities seeking employment.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Understand and uphold DSI’s mission to support individuals in achieving self-direction, inclusion, fulfillment, and productivity.
  • Assess and review all relevant information on individual strengths, abilities, barriers, limitations, and vocational preferences.
  • Be knowledgeable about and utilize funding sources such as Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BDDS), and other relevant programs.
  • Develop relationships with external services, make referrals, and facilitate person-centered planning to create employment plans aligned with individual goals.
  • Coordinate and participate in Discovery activities (e.g., job shadows, informational interviews, work experiences) to explore vocational interests, ideal work environments, and support strategies.
  • Provide motivation, training, and consultation to enhance job readiness and teach job-seeking techniques in accordance with funding guidelines.
  • Assist with job development, employer engagement, and job matching, including labor market research, restructuring duties, negotiating accommodations, and ensuring alignment with employer needs.
  • Support individuals through assessment, on-site/off-site coaching, and ongoing consultation to ensure job success.
  • Promote workplace and community integration by fostering advocacy, positive co-worker relationships, and connections to resources.
  • Maintain communication with interdisciplinary team members (e.g., VR Counselors, Case Managers, therapists, family members, school staff) to support individual goals.
  • Gather performance and satisfaction feedback from employees, employers, and funding sources to improve services.
  • Maintain accurate, professional records and ensure compliance with documentation and billing requirements.
  • Work efficiently, both independently and with teams, to meet required productivity levels.
  • Provide Pre-ETS or direct services as needed and complete additional duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS:
  • Maintain professional behaviors and appearance: dress appropriately, be on time for all appointments and follow through on commitments.
  • Attend/request related training as authorized.
  • Attend and complete an ACRE training program within first 6 months of employment.
  • Promote and display positive attitude and an overall commitment to the agency’s mission, values, and vision.
  • Ability to work flexible, non-standard hours, including occasional evening and weekends.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain CPR, CPI and First Aid certification annually and perform as necessary.
  • Perform necessary physical job functions (e.g., standing, bending, lifting, operating tools/equipment, documenting cases, and phone communication).

REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred with 2 years-experience in the field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in employment services, marketing, working with people with disabilities desired.
  • Each employee must attend and participate in staff meetings and training sessions regularly and maintain all required internal and external requirements and certifications.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
  • A valid driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance and acceptable motor vehicle report is required. In this position, reliable transportation is also required.
