Material Planner/Buyer

Summary of Position:

The material planner is responsible for performing all material planning, supplier communications. Purchasing of materials, equipment, and supplies, lead time tracking and accountability, transportation coordination, internal communications of deliveries, delays, etc. invoice payment follow-up. This role primarily supports PEO subs manufacturing operations by ensuring all materials are on hand to meet the production cost, quality, and production schedule and to support the operations team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use MRP Systems to create and cut POs in accordance with production schedule requirements and supplier lead times
  • Develop and follow a material plan to support production schedule requirements
  • Communication with suppliers- prints, specs, expediting, direction, etc.
  • Purchase all needed equipment and communicate status
  • Purchase all needed shop supplies and communicate status
  • Regularly document and communicate on material status
  • Oversee material moving from receipt to incoming inspection to inventory
  • Ensure parts conform to engineering drawings, specifications, and purchase order requirements
  • Ensure all material certifications, test reports, and inspection documentation are provided for engineering and quality
  • Initiate nonconformance reports (NCRs) to suppliers


Qualifications for Position:

  • Education
  • High school diploma or Equivalent
  • Associates degree and or bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment and familiar with manufacturing
  • Minimum 5 years of experience performing procurement activities in MFG
  • CPM Preferred
  • Familiar with prints, materials specs, equipment, machines, and systems
  • Skills, Competencies & Attributes
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings
  • Able to handle confidential information, establish priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross functional team
  • Possess organizational, analytical, oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of MFG practices and processes
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel)
  • Needs to work onsite at all times in our location in (Philadelphia, PA)
  • Preferred Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or large scale construction
  • Experience working with fabricated metal products, machining, welding, etc.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality Systems
  • Experience with Government
  • Licensure/Certification
  • CPM- Purchasing/procurement, supplier selection and evaluation, Inventory management, cost reduction strategies, material planning, logistics, and supply chain, ethics
