What are the responsibilities and job description for the German Teacher (Afterschool Program, Part-Time) position at Deutsch-Lab?
About the Program:
Deutsch-Lab is a parent-led, community-supported German language initiative for middle school students with and without prior German exposure (e.g., from dual immersion or heritage programs). Our goal is to maintain and grow students’ language proficiency while preparing them for long-term success in international exams like AP German and the DSD.
We successfully have been running this new program for one school year already twice a week with a group of students on A2/B1 level and are looking to potentially add a beginner course in the next school year.
Position Summary:
We’re searching for an enthusiastic, reliable, and engaging German teacher to lead once or twice-weekly after-school classes. This role is ideal for someone passionate about language education who enjoys working with middle schoolers in a casual, group setting of approx. 8-10 kids.
Responsibilities:
- Lead engaging, age-appropriate lessons focused on conversation, literacy, and cultural enrichment
- Incorporate structured progression toward language goals (A1/A2/B1 level benchmarks)
- Create a welcoming, supportive classroom environment
- Coordinate informally with parent organizers as needed
Qualifications:
- Fluency in German (native or near-native proficiency)
- Teaching experience with youth preferred (formal credentials a plus but not required)
- Passion for language education and cross-cultural learning
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
Compensation:
- Hourly rate commensurate with experience
- This is a part-time contractor position through our nonprofit partner
