What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service Worker position at Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority?
Under the general supervisor of the Site Director, the Food Service Worker prepares and serves meals to guests of the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network’s (DWIHN) Crisis Center and maintains a clean, safe, and orderly food service work area.
Pay Grade: 2
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
A High School Diploma, GED, or its equivalent.
Required Experience
One (1) year of full-time paid professional experience as a food service worker.
NOTE: Experience as a Food Service Worker may be substituted for required education on a year for year basis.
Required License(s).
A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a safe and acceptable driving record.
Special Conditions
Active and valid Food Handler’s Certification required or obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
Working Conditions
This position will work in the DWIHN Crisis Care Center. This position will require you to work with people who may suffer from mental health or substance abuse crises
Crisis Care Operations is a 24/7 unit. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule.

- Prepares meals and snacks for guests.
- Serves meals to guests at designated times.
- Monitors and maintains food safety including but not limited to expiration dates and refrigeration.
- Maintains a clean and safe food/kitchen area.
- Monitors the use of utensils by guests.
- Keeps record of food and equipment temperatures.
- Assists on units between meals/snacks as assigned by the Unit Supervisor.
- Assists with critical situations that may require Restrictive Interventions.
- Completes documentation as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of DWIHN policies, procedures, and practices.
