Detroit Tuned is hiring a fully certified, experienced Automotive Technician. This is not an apprentice, trainee, or entry-level position. We are seeking a technician who can work independently, diagnose accurately, and complete jobs without supervision.
We specialize in 2002–current MINI models, delivering dealer-level service—and far beyond. From routine maintenance to full race builds, dyno tuning, part manufacturing, and one-off custom projects, our work attracts customers locally, nationally, and internationally.

What You’ll Do
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and performance issues from start to finish
- Perform dealer-level maintenance and inspections with zero shortcuts
- Work on brakes, suspension, exhaust, engines, alignments, A/C, electrical, and computer systems
- Support performance builds including turbo/supercharger systems, coilovers, corner balancing, camber setup, and more
- (Bonus) Operate a dyno and assist with tuning
- Maintain high standards for shop cleanliness, safety, and professionalism
- Communicate clearly with customers and team members
- Complete work efficiently while exceeding customer expectations
- Current Michigan State Mechanic Certification OR ASE equivalent - Engine Repair, Brakes & Braking Systems, Suspension & Steering, Manual Transmission & Drive Axles, Automatic Transmission, Heating & Air Conditioning
- Minimum 4 years dealership or OEM-level experience (or equivalent high-level independent shop experience)
- Strong diagnostic ability (not a parts replacer)
- Ability to complete jobs from diagnosis through final repair without supervision
- Own professional tools and rolling toolbox
- Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Must be 21 years old
- Electrical certification
- Engine Performance certification
- Performance build experience
- ASE Master Tech

- Advanced knowledge of brakes, suspension, engine diagnostics, exhaust, hydraulic and electrical systems
- Ability to perform basic maintenance (oil changes, fluid checks, tire rotation)
- Understanding of performance components and vehicle dynamics
- Basic math skills
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and perform physical shop tasks (bend, squat, climb, etc.)
- Self-starter mindset with problem-solving ability
