Job Summary
The Bus Maintenance Technical Trainer is responsible for developing and delivering technical training programs for bus maintenance employees. This role ensures mechanics and technicians are properly trained in preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair procedures, and safety practices for transit buses and related equipment.
This position plays a key role in improving fleet reliability, reducing vehicle downtime, and supporting workforce development within the maintenance department.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Instruction
- Deliver classroom and hands-on training for bus mechanics and technicians
- Train staff on preventive maintenance procedures and repair techniques
- Provide instruction on major bus systems including:

- Engines and powertrain systems
- Electrical and multiplex systems
- HVAC systems
- Braking and suspension systems
- Air systems and doors
- Support onboarding and training of new maintenance employees and apprentices
Program Development
- Develop training materials including presentations, manuals, and hands-on exercises
- Maintain training records and certifications
- Evaluate training effectiveness and update programs as needed
Technical Support
- Assist maintenance teams with complex troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Support the introduction of new bus technologies and equipment
Safety & Compliance
- Train staff on shop safety procedures and regulatory compliance
- Promote safe work practices and proper use of tools and equipment
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology, or related fieldOR equivalent experience
- 5 years of experience in heavy-duty vehicle or transit bus maintenance
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, and bus components
- Experience mentoring or training technicians preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with transit buses such as those manufactured by New Flyer, Gillig
- ASE Medium/Heavy Truck certifications
- Experience with diagnostic software and maintenance systems
- Experience developing technical training programs
Work Environment
- Combination of classroom instruction and hands-on shop training
- Work closely with mechanics, supervisors, and maintenance leadership
- Occasional travel for manufacturer training

Pay: $70,000.00 - $92,000.00 per year
