Detroit Community Schools is hiring a full time Algebra I Teacher and an Algebra II Teacher.  Must have Michigan teacher certification and endorsement in the subject.

Job Summary

We are seeking two full-time High School Mathematics Teachers, Algebra I and Algebra II. Teachers are responsible for providing engaging, standards-aligned mathematics instruction that develops students' mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills while creating a supportive classroom environment that promotes academic growth and success.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction for either Algebra I or Algebra II.
  • Create lesson plans and learning activities that develop mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning styles, abilities, and individual student needs.
  • Develop and administer assessments, including assignments, quizzes, tests, projects, and other appropriate measures of student learning.
  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate academic records, and provide timely feedback.
  • Connect mathematical concepts to real-world applications and encourage students to apply problem-solving strategies independently.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Provide additional academic support and intervention to students as needed.
  • Utilize instructional technology and digital resources to enhance student learning.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school staff regarding student progress and academic concerns.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, analyze student data, and support school improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in school activities, meetings, professional development, and other assigned duties.
  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.


    Cognitive Demands:

    • Supervision of multiple students in a classroom setting.
    • Establishing routines and procedures that promote student engagement and academic success.
    • Creating and implementing instructional plans aligned with curriculum standards.
    • Analyzing student performance data and adapting instruction to meet individual needs.
    • Maintaining a safe, organized, and productive learning environment.
    • Managing multiple priorities while meeting instructional and assessment deadlines.
    • Participating in continuous professional development.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.

    Physical Demands:

    • Frequently stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom.
    • Occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
    • Occasionally bend, kneel, squat, or reach while assisting students or organizing classroom materials.
    • Withstand moderate noise levels throughout the school environment.
    • Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary.
    • Assist/lift students, as necessary.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Secondary Education, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
    • Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with the appropriate Mathematics endorsement required.
    • Strong knowledge of high school mathematics curriculum and instructional practices, particularly Algebra I and/or Algebra II.
    • Ability to develop engaging lessons that promote mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
    • Excellent classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning, instruction, and assessment.
    • Proficiency in integrating instructional technology into mathematics instruction.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and school leadership to support student success.
