The Detroit College Access Network (DCAN) is a citywide collaborative working with local schools, organizations, and the community to make a college degree or credential a reality for all Detroit students. We serve as the coordinating body for Detroit’s college access and enrollment strategies, using collective impact to align programs, schools, businesses, and resources to improve college enrollment and graduation rates.
About Graduate 313 – DCAN’s Community Hub
In partnership with The Jamie and Denise Jacob Foundation, DCAN is launching Graduate 313—a community-led, DCAN-owned hub designed to align and amplify college access and success efforts across Detroit. Graduate 313 will provide multi-generational college advising, wraparound supports, and programming that improves postsecondary access, persistence, and completion for as many as 12,000 Detroiters annually.
The hub will serve as a one-stop location for advising, community engagement, emergency grants, and collaboration with key partners to better serve youth, adult learners, and families.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Seasonal Program Advisor with a proven track record in student advising at the secondary or postsecondary level. The ideal candidate has strong facilitation skills, deep knowledge of the K–16 education pipeline in Detroit, and a passion for helping students overcome barriers to postsecondary success. This role requires extensive one-on-one and group engagement, case management, and the ability to guide learners through academic planning, career exploration, and the college application and financial aid process.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized advising and case management for high school students, adult learners, and families.
- Assist students in navigating admissions, financial aid, and college decision-making processes.
- Facilitate workshops for students and families on postsecondary planning and access.
- Track student progress and help mitigate barriers to postsecondary success.
- Partner with schools, community-based organizations, and postsecondary institutions to support. students.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or related field (required).
- 3–5 years’ experience advising high school students, adult learners, and families.
- Experience with youth-focused organizations, community partnerships, and postsecondary institutions in metro Detroit.
- Strong organizational, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

We have vacancies open to fill our Seasonal Program Advisor positions for our high school and adult learner cohorts.
These positions are available for professionals with experience in academic advising, counseling, financial aid support and more. This roles will serve either high schools students or adult learners. This role begins September 2025 and ends May 2026 as a seasonal part-time position on our team.
This position is split between the first and second semester of the 2025-2026 school year and has a $10,000 stipend based on the roles and responsibilities of the position.
This role has both virtual and in-person components and advising and requires the availability of the advisors in the evenings and some weekends for DCAN/Graduate 313 related events.
