LTL Operations Specialist

Job Title: LTL Operations Specialist – Service Focus

We are seeking a highly organized and service-driven LTL Operations Specialist with a strong focus on shipment execution and customer experience. In this role, you will own LTL shipments from quote through delivery, proactively managing carrier communication, tracking, exceptions, and service recovery. Your ability to balance urgency, accuracy, and clear communication will be critical in ensuring our customers receive reliable, high-quality service while maintaining operational efficiency and cost control.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment, takes personal ownership of shipments, and is motivated by solving problems before they escalate.

Key ResponsibilitiesShipment Execution & Service Management

• Manage LTL shipments from booking through final delivery, ensuring accurate execution and timely follow-through.
• Monitor active shipments, proactively tracking progress and identifying potential service issues before they impact customers.
• Coordinate pickups, transit updates, and delivery confirmations with carriers and terminals.
• Own service recovery efforts for missed pickups, delays, re-weighs, re-classes, and other exceptions.

Exception Handling & Problem Resolution

• Quickly diagnose carrier-related issues such as missed pickups, incorrect freight class, accessorial disputes, or service failures.
• Communicate clearly and confidently with carriers to resolve issues and advocate for appropriate outcomes.
• Determine when to resolve issues independently versus escalating to leadership or carrier management.
• Ensure all exceptions are fully resolved and documented, with no loose ends.

Customer Communication & Support

• Serve as a primary point of contact for customers regarding shipment status, delays, and service concerns.
• Provide proactive, transparent updates to customers, setting realistic expectations and maintaining trust.
• Balance customer satisfaction with cost awareness, ensuring service recovery aligns with company standards.

Process Adherence & Continuous Improvement

• Follow established SOPs consistently to ensure reliable execution and scalability.
• Identify process gaps, recurring issues, or inefficiencies and bring improvement ideas forward.
• Maintain accurate shipment records and notes within the TMS to support visibility and accountability.

Collaboration & Team Support

• Work closely with sales, billing, and other operations team members to ensure a seamless handoff from quote to invoice.
• Share carrier insights, service trends, and best practices with the broader LTL operations team.
• Support centralized operations by maintaining consistent execution and communication standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in LTL operations, logistics, or transportation service execution.
• Strong understanding of LTL fundamentals, including freight class, NMFCs, accessorials, claims, and transit times.
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills in a high-volume environment.
• Strong problem-solving ability and comfort handling exceptions under pressure.
• Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with regional and national LTL carrier networks and their service profiles.
• Experience working in a TMS and LTL rating tools.
• Proven ability to push back on unjustified carrier charges or service failures.
• Demonstrated ownership mindset with end-to-end shipment responsibility.
